Seven titles of Champion of Mountain Canaries for José Manuel González

The constancy and love he feels for this discipline are two of the sources of energy available to the pilot based in La Gomera. Seven times champion of the Canary Islands, he is the most awarded among the Barquetas and the second in the overall score of the regional championship.

It has not been an easy season. What should have been a year of transition in their sports aspirations became a challenge when the conditioning factors of the races left José Manuel González with no points initially planned. But his perseverance and sacrifice led him to travel the entire archipelago in search of a new title of Champion of the Canary Islands.
And there are seven. The pilot supported by the Iltre. Town Hall of San Sebastián de La Gomera, Cabildo of La Gomera, Dipicell, Argom Distributions, La Gomera Food, Naviera Armas, Mesa Buses, Construcciones y Reformas Basas, KoniCanarias, Gomera Office, Gomera Hogar, Gomera Hostel and Distribuciones Jonay Santos, has re-entered the history of insular motoring. Seven regional corners make him the second with more titles in the history of the championship. In its specialty of barquetas, the purest in the mountain championships, is at the top and becomes the reference, leaving behind illustrious names.
«One more season, and although it may seem, it has not been easy», acknowledges the Gomera Auto Racing driver. «Traveling to Fuerteventura and not adding points, sweating to do it in Lanzarote, suffering problems in Tenerife … in short, there have been different chapters and labyrinths that we have been finding in our way», but, in the end, «we have been able to reach the objective. We started with the usual BRC B49 that Guillermo Evora gave us and we ended up with a more modern BRC B52, which also entailed some risks, but in the end what will remain is the seventh crown «, a historical figure if we keep an eye on the history of the championship.
The victories in La Palma, Lanzarote and La Gomera were key, in fact the first one made him the virtual winner of the Canary Mountain Championship last August. «We wanted to do well in El Hierro but unfortunately the race could not be made,» recalls González, absent last weekend in Gran Canaria, an island where the regional championship was over. «I would have loved to be in Fataga, for the Gran Canaria fans and for the layout of that climb, but the economic effort this season has been very big and we had to discard it,» he said.
The season of González was completed with the participation in Hermigua at the wheel of a Peugeot 205 look Group B; there he was second to 93 hundredths of the absolute victory in Tourisms.
